Ascent Management Consulting Announces Radical New Approach to Performance Management
New system eliminates annual reviews and produces engaged workforces

December 29, 2009 - Oro Valley, AZ- Engagement Leadership, a new and radical approach to managing employee performance, will "give organizations an alternative to worn out annual performance reviews," announced Ascent Management Consulting's founder, Kevin Herring.

"This change is long overdue in most organizations," said Herring. "Senior leaders, line managers, and workers alike have been calling for a better approach to performance reviews for a long time, and now we have a solution for them."

Herring explained that Ascent Management Consulting has helped organizations re-engineer many internal processes that stifled innovation and intrinsic motivation including "stove piped" work processes, excessively hierarchical decision methods, and over-controlling leadership practices. This new approach replaces compliance-based performance management with "Engagement Leadership" and comes as another in a long line of workplace changes Ascent Management Consulting has introduced to raise workforce performance to new levels.

A leader in work unit productivity improvement and performance turnarounds, Ascent Management Consulting has identified six processes that together constitute the elements of Engagement Leadership.  Organizations that execute each of these processes effectively have no need for annual reviews and substantially improve their ability to increase workforce performance through higher levels of employee engagement.

Organizations that have implemented Ascent Management Consulting's turnaround processes have experienced substantial performance increases sometimes greater than 100%. Supporting systems such as Engagement Leadership provide a substantial boost to such turnaround results.

Ascent Management Consulting offers in-house consulting, coaching and workshops to implement Engagement Leadership as a stand-alone system or component of a larger-scale turnaround.

Ascent Prescribes Performance Breakthroughs Instead of Cutting Corners
Expert brings workforce turnarounds back to struggling businesses

February 5, 2009 - Oro Valley, AZ - In tough economic times, work groups and departments need to be settingnew standards for performance more than looking for simple costreductions, according to Kevin Herring, workforce turnaround expert andfounder of Ascent Management Consulting. Herring states thatoveremphasizing cost cutting may cause leaders to miss the bestopportunities for their employees to dramatically improve operations.

Herring says that instead of just squeezing expenses businesses should beenabling core employees to find ways to retain existing customers andgenerate new business by creating breakthroughs in service, cycletimes, and quality. "No workforce is perfect," he explains. "All can find something that can be done better, more quickly, with fewerproblems, etc. We're not talking about minor improvements though. We're talking about dramatic leaps in performance and results."

Asked why more companies choose cost cutting instead of a turnaround strategy, Herring explains that it's sometimes difficult to see possibilities for higher performance when everyone is already working as hard as they can. Cutting costs may appear to be the only optionavailable. Many are not aware that today's turnarounds produceremarkably high performance in specific departments or work groups injust a few months. As an example, he cites the experience of a production laboratory that doubled its productivity and dramaticallyreduced quality problems in about three months by engaging employees ina turnaround process.

Herring believes that a recession provides an opportunity for organizations to focus on performance. When product demand is high, its all a team can do to keep up. But when demand slows, there is time to turn to otherissues. Just like the advice to boost marketing when sales drop, it'salso time to step up and improve the internal workings inside andbetween work groups. "When the pain is high, the motivation to improveis, too," says Herring. "It's a great time to rally core employees for breakthroughs."
